Citizenship Test Practice

Canada Regions Practice Questions

The citizenship test loves to ask about the map of Canada. You may be asked for the capital city of a province or a territory, which provinces sit in each region, and what each part of the country is known for. With ten provinces and three territories and five regions to learn, this chapter holds a lot of place names that are easy to mix up at first.

The good news is that the map becomes friendly once you learn it region by region. When you practice a little at a time and see the right answer right away, each capital city attaches itself to its province or territory and each region starts to feel like a place you know. That is exactly what this practice set is built to do.

Chapter 1 is free. The full Online Program covers every chapter of the guide for $49, one time.

How this practice set works

Each round gives you 20 questions drawn at random from the full bank of 161 regions questions in the course Joy teaches. Pick an answer and you will see at once whether you were right, along with a short note that helps the fact stick. Take as many rounds as you like. Each new round brings a fresh mix, so repeat rounds keep teaching you new capital cities and new region facts.

On the real test you need at least 75 percent of your answers right to pass. Aim to pass every round on this page before your test day, and the provinces and territories questions on the real test will feel familiar.

Ready when you are. Your first round pulls 20 questions from the regions bank of 161 questions.

The map in brief

Keep this short outline in mind while you practice. Every question in the set belongs somewhere on this map.

  • Canada has five regions. They are the Atlantic Provinces, Central Canada, the Prairie Provinces, the West Coast and the North.
  • Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories, and the capital of Canada is Ottawa in Ontario.
  • The Atlantic Provinces are Newfoundland and Labrador with its capital at St. John's, Prince Edward Island with its capital at Charlottetown, Nova Scotia with its capital at Halifax, and New Brunswick with its capital at Fredericton.
  • Prince Edward Island is the smallest province in Canada, and people in the Atlantic Provinces fish and farm and work in forestry and mining.
  • Central Canada is Quebec and Ontario. Quebec City is the capital of Quebec, and Toronto is the capital of Ontario.
  • More than half of all people in Canada live in Quebec and Ontario. Toronto is the biggest city in Canada, and Montreal is the second biggest city and the biggest city where French is the main language.
  • The Prairie Provinces are Manitoba with its capital at Winnipeg, Saskatchewan with its capital at Regina, and Alberta with its capital at Edmonton. The Prairies are famous for wheat farms and energy.
  • British Columbia is the province on the West Coast, and its capital is Victoria. It has the mildest weather in Canada and great forests, and the Port of Vancouver is the biggest port in Canada.
  • The North is Yukon with its capital at Whitehorse, the Northwest Territories with its capital at Yellowknife, and Nunavut with its capital at Iqaluit. The North covers about one third of Canada and is rich in minerals.
  • The Great Lakes are the biggest group of freshwater lakes in the world, and Canada and the United States share the longest border in the world.
